Suo Zhenhai(1954-2006), styled Yi Shi, or Yi Ding, born in Raoyang County of Hengshui City, obtained high arts achievements. His works focus on a wide range of subjects including landscapes, flowers, birds, figures and pavilions; he was very excellent in painting and calligraphy skills and uses them freely in his works. At the beginning of 1970s, he came to Beijing and took the current famous inside painting master Ye Xiaosan as his teachers, Suo is the only non-local disciple of Mr Ye. Suo’s works include lots of splashed-ink landscapes. As landscape paintings, human elements were included there. His works such as “Yu Qiao Geng Du (fisherman, woodcutter, farmer and scholar)” and “Feng Yu Lei Dian (Wind, Rain, thunder and lightning)”, both of them contain people’s activity, which expressly demonstrates Suo’s humanity spirit, that is human activity is the essence to nature and human have to follow natural rules while take use of nature. On these painting works, the mountains dominate because it occupies much space while human figures hide in a corner or a line, shown indistinctly but leisurely. These small figures, leading an ox or donkey, or shouldering firewood or basket, some wearing bamboo hat, some puting on red jacket and several lines put several human figures vividly on the paper.
